Private Penedès Wine Tour From Barcelona
- Two wineries in a day — wine, cava, or one of each
- Lunch at a local restaurant, reserved ahead and chosen for the food
- A full day in the countryside — collected in the morning, back late afternoon
- Founded 2003 — over two decades of private days across Catalonia
What a Private Penedès Wine Tour Looks Like
Where a private Penedès day actually differs
Getting to the Penedès is the easy part. What separates one private day out here from another is who it’s built for — whether the day runs at a level someone else set, or is shaped around how much wine you actually want.
- A day pitched to you, not to the wine — some people want to understand what they’re drinking, some want a beautiful afternoon in the countryside and a good lunch. The tasting is scaled either way, and nobody is put through a lesson they didn’t ask for.
- Nobody has to be the driver — you’re collected from your hotel and driven the whole day, so everyone tastes and nobody is counting. On a wine day that isn’t a convenience, it’s the whole point.
- The wineries are chosen, booked and worth the drive — there are only so many out here, each with its own hours and its own level of demand. We already know which visits repay the journey and what can actually be arranged for your date. You don’t research it.
- Lunch chosen for the food — we’re not tied to a winery kitchen, so the table is picked on merit and reserved ahead, with time to sit at it properly. It’s the middle of the day, not a break in the schedule.
- One price for the day, not per person — most private wine days are priced per head, so the cost climbs with everyone you bring. Ours is one figure for the day, published, whether you’re two or six.
- Owner-operated and sold direct — a fully licensed travel agency, the same small team from the first message to the last drop-off, never resold through a listing that marks up your day. You plan it by message with the people who’ll run it; near-instant on WhatsApp during the day.
How a day in the Penedès runs
The shape of the day rather than a timetable — it shifts a little depending on when the wineries can take you.
A morning pickup from your hotel
Collected from your door and driven out to the Penedès, an hour to an hour and a half. You’ll be at the first winery mid-morning.Into the first winery
How the wine is made, where it’s aged, and a tasting pitched to you. Anywhere from a straightforward tasting of a few wines through to a full sit-down with food alongside and someone taking you through each pour. We set the level with you when you book, and it doesn’t have to be the same at both visits.A reserved lunch, in the middle of the day
Lunch isn’t an interval between two wineries — it’s what lets the day breathe. The morning runs long if it’s going well, the table is held, and the afternoon starts when everyone is ready. Reserved before you arrive, chosen for the food rather than for whose kitchen it happens to be, and settled directly with the restaurant at the end.A second winery, chosen for contrast
Not more of the same — often a change of drink altogether: cava at the cool end near Sant Sadurní d’Anoia, the still wines further inland around Vilafranca del Penedès.Back in Barcelona by late afternoon
Mid-afternoon, the drive back, with your hotel reached by late afternoon and the evening still yours. If you’d rather build the day out further, that’s what the next section is for.
Two ways to make more of the day
Add photographs of your day
On dates when it’s possible, one of our guides photographs the day as it goes — the vines, the cellar, the table at lunch, your group in it rather than posed in front of it. It’s the kind of day that photographs well, and nobody has to hand a phone to a stranger. Ask when you book and we’ll tell you whether it’s possible on your date.
Or pair the day with Montserrat
The mountain and the monastery in the morning, a leisurely lunch, then a winery on the way back to Barcelona. A fuller day than either on its own, and the pairing people ask for most.
Further afield, Priorat is Catalonia’s other great wine region — steep terraced country, a very different landscape, and a longer drive out. It’s an option on any of these days, so if it appeals, just say and we’ll build the day around it.
How your Penedès wine day is arranged
A private Penedès day is arranged before you travel rather than assembled on the morning. We collect you at your hotel, drive out to the wine country, and the visits are already booked to your date with the table at lunch reserved ahead. You don’t work out which wineries take visitors, when they’re open, or where to eat between them — that’s what we arrange, so the day runs as one thing rather than a set of bookings you’re chasing yourself.
Pickup and return
We collect you from your hotel or apartment anywhere in Barcelona and bring you back to the door at the end of the day. The Penedès is an hour to an hour and a half out, depending on where you’re staying, the traffic on the way out of the city, and which end of the region we start at.
Which wineries you’ll visit
We arrange the visits before you travel. There are only so many wineries out here, each keeps its own hours and days, and the better ones fill — so which two you visit depends on your date and what can be booked for it. We’ll confirm the plan with you before the day, along with the tasting level at each visit.
If you’re arriving on a cruise ship
The short version of the day suits most ship calls — one winery and a leisurely lunch, back at the port with time in hand. If you’re homeporting or sailing later in the evening, the full two-winery day is comfortably possible. Send us your ship and times and we’ll tell you which one fits.

What a private Penedès day costs
One figure for the day, published up front — not per person, and not a number you have to ask for.
Private Penedès Wine Tour
From €1,190 per group (up to 7 people)
- Maximum group size: 7 people
- Duration: about 8 hours
- What the one figure covers — the car, the driver, your guide for the whole day, the visits arranged and confirmed, and the table booked. Two people or six, the same price.
- Lunch sits outside it — we reserve the table; you settle it directly with the restaurant. Never marked up.
- So do the tastings — we book them ahead and they’re billed with the tour. Typically €30–40 per person at each winery, more for the sit-down version. We’ll confirm the exact figure for your date.
- Both sit outside deliberately — bundling them means fixing them in advance: one restaurant, one tasting package, the same for everyone who books. Kept separate, the table is chosen for the food and the tasting is set at the level you actually want, and you know what each costs before you travel.
- For a couple it’s a considered purchase — worth being plain about. One figure divides several ways for a family or a group of friends; for two, you’re paying for a private day rather than a seat on one.
- Larger groups than seven — no problem. It means a vehicle sized to your group, so tell us the numbers and we’ll price the day for you.
Common questions about a private Penedès wine tour
Which wineries will we visit?
We arrange the visits before you travel, so it depends on your date. There are only so many wineries out here, each keeps its own hours and days, and the better ones fill — so we book the two that work best for when you're here, and confirm the plan with you before the day. Usually that's one cava producer and one still-wine estate, chosen so the afternoon is a contrast to the morning rather than more of the same.
How much wine tasting is involved — we're not experts.
As much or as little as you like, and you don't need to know anything. A straightforward tasting of a few wines is the usual choice. If you'd rather go further there's a full sit-down with food alongside and someone taking you through each pour, and if you'd rather keep it light, that's fine too. We set the level with you when you book, and it doesn't have to be the same at both visits. We book the tastings ahead and they're billed with the tour — typically €30–40 per person at each winery, more for the sit-down version. We'll confirm the exact figure for your date.
Can we do a shorter day, or just one winery?
Yes. One winery and a leisurely lunch makes a comfortable shorter day, and it's the shape that suits most cruise calls. Tell us what you have in mind when you get in touch and we'll build the day around it.
How long is the drive?
An hour to an hour and a half each way. It moves a little depending on where you're staying in Barcelona, the traffic getting out of the city in the morning, and which end of the region we start at — the cava country is closer, the still-wine estates a little further inland.
Is lunch included in the price?
Lunch sits outside the tour price. We reserve the table ahead — rural restaurants here keep their own days and the good ones fill — and you settle it directly with the restaurant at the end. Nothing is marked up. Keeping it separate is deliberate: it means the table is chosen for the food rather than fixed in advance for everyone who books.
What's the price based on — is it per person?
One figure for the day, whatever the size of your group up to the maximum. It covers the car, the driver, your guide for the whole day, the visits arranged and confirmed, and the table booked. Lunch you settle directly with the restaurant; the winery tastings we book ahead and bill with the tour. You'll know what both come to before you travel. Above seven we move to a vehicle sized for your group — tell us the numbers and we'll quote the day.
Can we combine the Penedès with somewhere else?
Montserrat is the natural pairing and the one people ask for most — the mountain and the monastery in the morning, a leisurely lunch, then a winery on the way back. Priorat, Catalonia's other great wine region, is further out and makes for a longer drive; it's an option too, so just say if it appeals. You can see the full range on our day trips from Barcelona page.
Is this a good day out with children?
It works better than people expect. There's countryside to be in rather than a museum to keep quiet in, lunch is unhurried, and the car is yours — so a nap on the way back is nobody else's problem. The wineries are working estates rather than playgrounds, so it suits children who are happy to be outdoors and around a table for a couple of hours.
We were talking about the three restaurants that you sent us to and think they are just perfect and give the visitor a taste of typical Barcelona foods. — Lyt & Venita, Texas
