Private Tibidabo e-bike tour
Barcelona Experience runs private Tibidabo e-bike tours for families and small groups — your group only, never shared. Founded in 2003 and operating for more than 23 years in Barcelona, the company holds a 5.0 rating across more than 100 TripAdvisor reviews. There's no fixed route: the guide shapes the climb to Barcelona's highest summit around your group's pace and interests. The e-bike makes the top reachable for anyone comfortable on a bicycle, age 14 and up — the Sagrat Cor church, the amusement park, 360° views, a drink stop at the peak. Pricing is flat per group: €290 for couples, or €390 for up to five riders, which works out to €78 per person at five.

What You'll See: Up to Barcelona's Tibidabo Summit

Most visitors never get up Tibidabo. It’s Barcelona’s highest point — the green mountain on the skyline with the church on top — and almost everyone leaves without setting foot on it. The reward for getting up there is the widest 360° view in the city: the whole of Barcelona on one side, the Collserola hills on the other.

The climb is what puts people off on a regular bike. The e-bike removes that — it’s a steady, manageable ride to the top, no fitness needed, and far more satisfying than seeing it through a car window. At the summit: the Sagrat Cor church and its viewpoint, the old amusement park beside it, the 360° panorama, and a drink stop where the guide knows the one good spot.

The summit is the default ride, not the only one. Two alternatives:

Carretera de les Aigües — the flat panoramic ridge along the hillside above the city. Easier going, views the whole way.

The Collserola loop — a longer ride deeper into the park itself, greener and quieter.

Which one you ride isn’t set in advance. It comes down to your group’s pace, your time, and what you’re after — your guide shapes it on the day.

The Ride at a Glance

You ride from the sea all the way to the top of the hill — crossing parts of Barcelona most visitors never see on the way up. The honest shape of it, so you know what your group is taking on:

Distance

Approximately 25–35 km round trip — including 10–14 km each way between the bike shop and the foot of the hill

Climbing

Approximately 400–500 m of elevation gained up to the summit — and the ride home is all downhill

Duration

a half day, around 4 to 4.5 hours, with options to make longer or extend your ride.

Terrain

City streets to reach the hill, then mostly car-free gravel tracks and the occasional quiet road

Effort

Moderate on an e-bike — the motor takes the climb, you do the riding

Difficulty

Easy to moderate; for confident riders comfortable in traffic, no off-road

How This Tour Adapts

Every other Tibidabo bike tour hands you a set route. This one doesn’t. It’s private from the start — your group only — and the route gets shaped around you as you ride, not booked in advance off a menu.

That sounds like a small thing. On the day it’s the whole tour. A few examples of how it actually plays out:

  • The church, or the ride. The Sagrat Cor church and crypt are free to walk into; the lift up the tower is a small extra ticket, bought on the spot. An hour spent up there is an hour less on the bike. Some groups want the church and the viewpoint and take their time; others would rather keep riding the hillside. Your guide reads which kind of group you are — often before you’ve said it — and the route flexes either way.
  • Summit, ridge, or loop. If the group’s strong and the time’s there, you ride the full summit. If the legs or the clock say otherwise, the flat Carretera de les Aigües ridge gives you the views with less climbing. Want longer in the green? The Collserola loop opens up. Same booking, three different rides.
  • The amusement park. It’s right there at the top — the oldest in Spain, the Ferris wheel on the skyline. You reach it and take it in; going inside isn’t practical on a riding tour (it’s a separate paid ticket and a real chunk of time), but if seeing it matters to your group, say so when you book and we’ll plan around it.

None of this costs extra and none of it is decided in advance. You don’t negotiate a custom version of a fixed tour — there’s no fixed tour to start from. The ride is built around your group on the day.

Want the trails, not the summit?

This is an easy-going ride into the hills for the view — almost anyone comfortable on a bike can do it. If what you’re after is the mountain itself — singletrack, real trails, the fun of riding terrain rather than reaching a viewpoint — that’s a different ride, and we run it.

Our mountain bike tour heads into the trails in the hills above the city. It’s a genuine mountain-bike ride: you’ll want some basic off-road skills, and the terrain asks more of you than a smooth climb to the summit does. High-quality mountain e-bikes are there if you want the assist, or regular bikes if you’d rather earn it — but either way it’s the trails and the skills that set it apart, not the bike. And like this tour, it’s shaped around you: gentle and flowing or harder and more technical, your guide picks the trails to match.

Common Questions Before Booking

What's the minimum age, and can children ride?

Riders must be 14 or older. The e-bikes we use have an age minimum that applies to everyone, so younger children can't join this tour. From 14 up, any confident rider can come — though everyone should be comfortable riding in city traffic, since reaching the hill means real street riding before the quiet gravel begins. Helmets are included and worn by all riders.

Do we need to be fit to ride to the summit?

No — that's the whole point of the e-bike. The motor does the climbing, so the 400-odd metres up to the top that put most people off Tibidabo become a steady, manageable ride. You don't need to be fit, but you do need to be a confident rider: there's real city riding to reach the hill before the climb, and the e-bike still has to be ridden. We keep the pace relaxed and stop whenever you like.

Is there a weight limit for riders?

The standard city e-bikes have a manufacturer rider limit of around 95 kg (roughly 210 lb), including anything you're carrying. It's a bike-fit and safety spec, not a fitness one. If anyone in your group is near or over it, tell us when you book — we can usually find a solution. Higher-capacity e-bikes are available and handle more weight comfortably; they're a better bike but a pricier rental, so we'll lay out the options and you decide. Heavier riders also draw more from the battery on a climb this long, so your guide manages assist levels and can arrange a spare battery for the day — range is the guide's job to plan, not yours to worry about.

Can we go inside the amusement park?

You reach it and take it in — the oldest amusement park in Spain, right at the summit — but going inside isn't practical on a riding tour. It's a separate paid attraction and a real chunk of time, neither of which fits a half-day ride. If seeing it properly matters to your group, tell us when you book and we'll talk through the options. Attraction prices and opening hours are set by the venue and can change seasonally; your guide will confirm current details on the day.

What's at the summit, and is it ticketed?

The Sagrat Cor church and its crypt are free to walk into. The lift up the tower to the highest viewpoint is a small separate ticket, easily bought on the spot — worth it for the view, but an hour up there is an hour less riding, so it's your call on the day. The 360° panorama from the top is free to anyone standing there. Prices and hours are set by the venue and can change seasonally; your guide will confirm on the day.

Is there a regular-bike option, and whose bikes are these?

This is an e-bike tour only — there's no standard-bike version, because the pedal-assist is what makes the climb to Barcelona's highest summit doable for everyone. We rent quality e-bikes from established Barcelona shops we've worked with for years — the same trusted suppliers across all our bike tours — fitted to each rider on the day, with helmets included. You just turn up ready to ride.

Can the route be changed for our group?

Yes — this is a private tour with no fixed route. The summit is the default, but you can ride the flat Carretera de les Aigües ridge instead, or take the longer Collserola loop deeper into the park. Which one you ride comes down to your group's pace, time, and interests, and your guide shapes it on the day. Tell us what you're after when you book.

We're cruise passengers — does this work for a port day?

Yes. A standard port day gives you plenty of time — the ride is a half day, around four to four and a half hours, well inside a typical window. Tell us your ship, your port, and your timings when you book and we'll plan with a comfortable margin, as we have for cruise guests for years. And if you've got a night either side of your cruise in the city, there's no clock to watch at all.

What if it rains?

We ride in light rain — Barcelona rarely gets the kind that stops a tour. For heavier weather, once the bikes and guide are scheduled the costs are committed, so the tour is non-refundable. Your options are to ride through it, swap to a walking tour with your guide, or cancel without a refund. We'll always give you an honest read on the forecast first.

How early should we book in summer?

As early as you can. Summer is busy and our guide calendar fills, especially for a less-common ride like this one. If you're arranging any tickets through us for other days — Sagrada Família or Park Güell — those sell out two to three weeks ahead, so the earlier you tell us, the more room we have to shape the day around you.
