Every April Barcelona kicks off a colorful fair celebrating the culture of Andalusia, a region in the south of Spain famous for its lively culture. The 43rd annual Feria de Abril (Fira d’Abril in Catalan) takes place from April 25 to May 4 at the Forum, a large exhibition space near Barcelona’s Diagonal Mar Park and Diagonal Mar Shopping Center.
The heartbeat of the the festival is its 53 booths, which promote the best of Andalusian food and dance. Feria de Abril also boasts an amusement park.
The 2014 Feria de Abril
This year’s fair includes a photo exposition titled, “Rocia, Tiempos de Maria.” “Rocia” covers more than four decades of Andalusian social and cultural movements within Catalonia, where Andalusian culture flourished when its residents emigrated from the south to the north to find work.
We couldn’t let Feria de Abril pass without snapping a few pictures. Here’s what we experienced (take a look below for entrance fees, hours and how to get there):
Traditional flamenco dresses; always colorful, always creative. |
Grilled meat and fish; a staple of any Andalusian barbacoa |
Catch a ride on the Feria de Abril |
Magnificent views from the Feria de Abril Ferris wheel. |
